The City Council just approved two new laws that will drive efficiency in new and existing buildings. Urban Green helped shape these requirements, ensuring impactful and evidence-based policies.
Int. 1632-A requires large buildings to post an energy grade near their public entrances. Most people prefer to eat at A-rated restaurants, and this law bets people will prefer to live and work in A-rated buildings. Learn more about the law here.
Int. 1629-A creates a framework for more stringent Energy Codes through the next three cycles. The change could mean 30 percent energy savings in new construction by 2026. DOB is required to match the state “stretch code” for 2019 and 2022. By 2025, they’ll need to shift to performance-based codes for large buildings. That translates to greater simplicity and flexibility in code compliance, but challenging questions remain. Learn more in our blog post.
